What is a Penpal?
A penpal is someone (usually someone who lives in another state, province or country) that you write letters to. Sometimes, your penpal can become a true friend. In the past, penpals typically corresponded through letters written on paper or by postcard. Today, penpals have many more options including Email (often referred to as epals or Keypals), SMS (yes, some penpals prefer text messaging by mobile phone) and VoIP (there are penpals who like to use voice over IP), but others still prefer the original medium (sometimes referred to as snail mail).
